1966 BSA A65L Lightning
1966. What a year! Somewhere in the mix, BSA soldiered on with its still fairly fresh A65, unit construction 650. The changes for the year were mild, but iconic. BSA’s famous “hump back” seat was introduced, and the previously staid black headlight was replaced with a chrome one of more modern design. The half-width hub and deeply valanced rear fender were holdovers, which made this model year a mixed bag of old and new: really a striking combination, if you ask me.
This machine wears its age well, gracefully and on its sleeve. Matching numbers and mostly correct (new Amal Concentrics keep her twin cylinders fed in place of the worn-out Monoblocs). She’s a beauty.
