1969 Triumph T150T Trident
Anyone who frequents our website will know that my fascination with Triumph’s ground-breaking triples borders on schizophrenic. Scornful and appreciative at once. You see, the problem with triples is that they are, despite their Luddite origins, extremely advanced machines. No, don’t laugh. It’s true. Whereas their smaller siblings (Triumph’s well-established parallel twins) can be assembled in a cave with a candle and a hammer, the Tridents take real finesse to get the most out of. That’s not saying they’re perfect, not by a long shot. But, when sorted, they are a joy to ride and listen to.
This particular Trident was restored by a very meticulous customer of ours several years ago. In fact, it was featured in our 2017 Classic Triumph Calendar. It then found its way back here (as they do) to land in the garage of another meticulous customer who rode it and showed it (won People’s Choice at the 2020 Des Moines Vintage Bike Night British Night and, if I remember correctly, Best of Show at the Des Moines Concours D’Elegance the same year). It has been properly sorted over the last 2000 miles or so, and, while not perfect (they never are), this one is about as good as they get. Gorgeous to look at, futuristic and anachronistic at the same time. A truly unique motorcycle from a time when big displacement and multi-cylinders were things of wonder.
