Born in competition, the BSA Victor inspired a generation of riders to hit the road and trail. Back when Brit bikes ruled the sales floor, the Victor offered a simple, relatively affordable platform for riders of all skill levels but carried with it some serious credibility. This was no “learner” bike – this was a full-fledged World Champion! Infinitely less complicated than its predecessor, the fabled Gold Star, the little thumper’s lithe appearance belied its reputation as a true expert’s machine. Did this accessibility lead to its eventual demise? Were too many of these machines being sold on size/displacement and ending up in the hands of less experienced riders, trying to mold a bare-bones dirt bike into a docile street machine? Who knows? I mean, let’s face it: a King & Queen seat and some mini apes ain’t gonna make a Victor comfortable or a great daily rider.
And that brings us to this machine, a rarity among the little unit construction thumpers. Very unmolested – not raced, not modified, just preserved. Sure, we replaced the faded and fluctuating original speedo with a rebuilt one and tore off the original (and very much past their “Sell By” date) tires and tubes, but, this is an otherwise correct and “as they were” machine. Just serviced, one kick, no King & Queen seat.
