Ab-so-frickin’-lutely lovely. Maybe it’s the grayish blue cloudy cover today, maybe it’s the still-damp concrete glistening underfoot, maybe it’s just the right combination of polished aluminum and bright chrome, but this restored ’64 “half-tub” Thunderbird just pops.
We performed a full restoration on this bike several years ago and it has been well-cared for ever since. A scant 987 miles means it’s still bright and shiny, but it also means the first service issues that accompany most old bikes (especially restored bikes) have been sorted and fixed. A true one-or-two kick machine, these Bathtub models make up for the less sporty stance of their Trophy and Bonneville brethren with a distinguished and stylish poise that no other Brit bike of the era was able to match. The enclosure was meant to be a practical addition, and, while not well loved at the time, they have aged well and add an element of grace and, indeed, an aerodynamic appearance.
